About this role
Job Summary: The Credit Union Accountant supports the Finance Department by performing advanced accounting functions, including account reconciliations, financial reporting, and transaction processing. This role serves as a resource for the Accounting Assistant and collaborates with the Senior Accounting Operations Specialist to ensure accurate and timely financial operations in compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion. • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, investments, loans, and fixed assets; resolve complex discrepancies, while ensuring compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal policies and procedures. • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, support strategic financial planning. • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions. • Monitor and report on financial performance and trends. • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation. • Research and interpret accounting standards and regulatory changes, advising management on implications. • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and guidance as needed. • Recommend and support the implementation of process and system enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy. • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and sensitive data. • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and accounting standards, and research and interpret accounting standards while informing management of implications. • Prepare 5300 Call Report. • Other duties as assigned.
