Senior Staff Accountant Washington, DC | Metro Accessible | Hybrid Direct Hire or Contract-to-Hire | $70,000–$85,000 We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join the finance team at a top Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team and play an important role in supporting the organization’s day-to-day financial operations. The Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions, including month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and audit support. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work. Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day general ledger and accounting activities • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations • Assist with the monthly and year-end close processes • Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules • Review accounts and investigate discrepancies • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis • Support the annual audit process and provide requested documentation • Maintain accurate and organized financial records • Assist with maintaining and improving accounting procedures and internal controls • Work closely with members of the finance team and other departments on accounting-related matters • Participate in special projects and other finance initiatives as needed Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required • 3+ years of accounting experience required • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills • Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative member of the team • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Nonprofit accounting experience is a
