Recruiting a Gastroenterology Recruitment Registered Nurse to work in the Gastroenterology Department at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD, providing care to family members of Active Duty heroes and retirees. The Gastroenterology Recruitment Registered Nurse positions are full-time, not to exceed 80 hrs/2 weeks. At WRNMMC, contract employees shall be required to work varying shifts (8 to 12 hours) weekdays in a two-week period. Scheduling is always based on the needs of the MTF and must be coordinated through the requisite department POC and MTF COR. The specific schedule for each two-week period will be provided one month in advance. Duties of the Gastroenterology Recruitment Registered Nurse: 5.11.1 Duties: The duties for the HCW are as follows: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Should be knowledgeable (or able to acquire the knowledge) about the following commonly performed GI clinic procedures: colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, liver biopsy, paracentesis, FibroScan, and capsule endoscopy. Shall be knowledgeable (or able to acquire the knowledge) of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members. Should be able to provide conscious sedation for all commonly performed GI clinic procedures that require sedation Should be able to provide preoperative and postoperative nursing care of conscience sedation/general anesthesia patients. Should be able to provide direct provider assistance with liver biopsy and paracentesis procedures. Should be able to independently perform FibroScan, intramuscular injections, or intravenous medications to patients with staff oversight as needed.
