About this role
About us We are a small general contractor delivering construction projects for the U.S. Government. Most of our team works on job sites; our McLean, VA office is small and handles accounting, purchasing, HR and proposals. About the role We're hiring a full-time Accountant to run our day-to-day accounting in QuickBooks Online. You will be our only in-house accountant, working directly with the company president, who approves payments, and our outside CPA. You'll take on more as you grow with us. What you'll do • Enter supplier and subcontractor bills, match them to purchase orders or subcontracts, and prepare payments for the president's approval. Track contract-required payment releases and supporting documents, and flag missing items or payment disputes to the president. • Prepare customer invoices and progress-payment requests using contract-required forms, track receivables and any retainage, and follow up on payments due. • Code costs to projects and keep job cost reports up to date. • Help prepare payroll and maintain payroll records. On covered Davis-Bacon projects, prepare weekly certified payroll reports for review and certification by an authorized company representative, and track required subcontractor submissions. • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts each month and help with the month-end close. • Prepare monthly reports for the president, and work with our outside CPA on year-end, tax and 1099 information. • Keep accounting records organized, accurate and confidential. What we're looking for • An associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience. • Typically 2 or more years of hands-on accounting experience, such as accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and month-end close.
